Tekken Bloodline The Anime Series S

The famous fighting game Tekken, which debuted in the mid-1990s, is getting an anime series on Netflix this year, with the streamer releasing an official trailer in addition to the announcement. Netflix's new anime series is called Tekken: Bloodline.

The debut in the Tekken game series landed in arcades in September 1994 before making its way to PlayStation. Since then, Tekken has become a top-rated fighting game title for Namco and is generally associated with Sony consoles. The series has been phenomenally successful, selling over 53 million units, but oddly enough, it hasn't spawned too many movie or TV adaptations.

As The Verge noted, there was a 2010 live-action movie that turned out to be one of the worst rated movies on Rotten Tomatoes. The games' producer and director, Katsuhiro Harada, has basically disowned this film, saying that the film was not supervised by the creators of the games and that he is "not interested in that film". Harada did link to the anime's new trailer, though, so fans could expect a little more faithfulness to the games.

It certainly looks like this will be the case, as the trailer shows Tekken: Bloodline focusing on Jin Kazama, who was introduced in Tekken 3. Fans of the games will know that Jin is the grandson of Heihachi Mishima, head of the Mishima Zaibatsu Corporation. and host of the King of Iron Fist Tournament.

The games certainly have an intricate yet compelling storyline with the King of Iron Fist Tournament attracting fighters from all over the world; intrigues with the power struggles and machinations of the Mishima Zaibatsu, and the dastardly family dynamics within the Mishima clan that also involve some demonic supernatural elements. Tekken: Bloodline seems to have all that, with Heihachi's mother, Jin and Ogre.

Details like how many episodes we'll get or the exact release date have yet to be revealed, but fans can expect Tekken: Bloodline to hit Netflix later this year.
